Tequila is a Mexican spirit made of a special kind of Agave called Agave Azul Tequilana Weber.
Tequila is made in the area of Santiago de Tequila, a town in the western Mexican region of Jalisco. Tequila is the name of a certain kind of Mescal, a collective term for all drinks made by using the juice of the Agave. The production region and the kind of Agave used are the only things that distinguish Tequila from other Mescals. The name tequila is an exclusive trade mark for Mescals coming from the area of Santiago de Tequila bearing the title “Hecho en México” Tequila has at least 51% Agave juice, the rest mostly is sugar cane. These tequila’s are called mixto’s. High quality Tequila is made from 100% Agave Tequilana. There are three types of Tequila:
The colour of the Tequila is very much due to the time of oak maturation. Sometimes caramel is used for colouring, to suggest longer maturation. These Tequila’s are called “Gold”. Añejos are pretty dark, Reposados clearer, and Platas are transparent. Mescals bearing a worm in the bottle (con gusano) come from the state Oaxaco in Mexico. Our assortment consists of all the Tequila’s mentioned, from ordinary to super exclusive. |
